Our Favorite Star Wars Games (Pre-Sequel Trilogy!)

Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast

Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast Game

We start this list with our favorite semi-FPS: Jedi Outcast. The game is set in the future of the SW universe with Luke as an established Jedi master. What makes this game so good? Aside from the already impressive FP shooter that it already is, the game gets into gear once protagonist and ex-Jedi Kyle Katarn decides to re-learn his force training and takes up a lightsaber once again. Also, Jedi Knight II is supported by a very active community (even until now), so expect to find tons of mods and skins that will turn this game into an instant favorite.

Important features: Great mods, and good storyline. Be sure to download any patches and extra files from reputable sources.

X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter

X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter Game

This is probably the oldest game on our list, but it is also one of the most often played among space-flight sim enthusiasts. Even non-Star Wars fans marvel at the simplicity and cleverness of this space combat simulation (and yes, people go through lengths just to ensure that this game still runs on the latest desktop Operating Systems). In X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter dogfights are intense, the mission scenarios feel so loyal to the storyline, and if you truly want that X-Wing feel, get a friend to act as an astromech droid controlling your shields and power usage with a keyboard while you focus on the action with a joystick.

Important features: Works great with a joystick. It may require you to do some tweaks to get it compatible with certain OS setups.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Game

Not to be confused with the newer Old Republic MMORPG, KotR (Knights of the Old Republic) is a single player role playing experience that places you in control of an ex-Sith lord, Darth Revan. Set thousands of years before the movie, this game allows you to fully explore the Star Wars galaxy like never before. Also, cleverly written characters keep the story alive and fun (HK-47 is still our favorite droid, ever). The marvel of this game is not surprising, after all, Bioware made it.

Important features: Best self-contained storyline for a Star Wars game. It has few compatibility issues so expect to have little to no problems installing it.

The Force Unleashed Series

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Series

Most SW fans would have fantasized about having force powers and a lightsaber –and how they would go all out with what they can do. This game lets you do exactly that: outrageous uses of the force to inflict ridiculous amounts of damage to the enemy and the environment. It is a fun, exciting, and satisfying third person action-adventure game with easy controls, good lightsaber combat, and surprisingly, a great storyline.

Important features: No holds barred Force usage. The DLC is also worth getting as it explores interesting what-if scenarios.

Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader

Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader

If you are lucky enough to have a functioning first-gen Nintendo Gamecube unit, a GC component cable, and a copy of this game (or someone to borrow it from), do so. Rogue Leader lets you feel like you are literally playing in the movies. The audio is fantastic, the visuals are so close to the ones you see in the movie. Of course, you would need to be a flight sim fan to fully enjoy it. Anyway, when it comes to bringing the movie experience closest to your home, this is the best that you can get.

Important features: This game is great as it is (if you have a Wii, you can pop it in there). The component cable is optional, but certainly improves the visual experience by a significant amount.

Star Wars: Battlefront II

Star Wars: Battlefront II

Battlefront takes players on an exciting story following the path of the 501st Legion, a clone trooper group who take part in major battles starting from the events of the clone wars until the fateful battle on Hoth. But aside from giving players a “wartime” view of the Star Wars universe from Episodes 2 to 5, it also allows you to take control of a variety of clone and storm trooper job classes. You also get to play as special characters as well (such as Yoda, Mace Windu, Obi Wan, Darth Vader). The action in Battlefront II is non-stop, the gameplay is addictive, and few other games let you experience the world of Star Wars from such a gritty perspective.

Important features: Impressive frontline war combat gameplay. For the best experience, play the home console or desktop versions instead of the portable ports as those do not have the main campaign.
